Shrub in the Lois Hole Garden, Alberta Legislature<\/p><\/div>\n

This is a joke about the pursuit of a post-graduate degree. I cannot take credit for it, I received an old copy of it from a former boss who had originally received it by email back in 1998!<\/p>\n

Scene: It\u2019s a fine, beautiful day in the forest. A rabbit is sitting outside his burrow, typing away on his lap top. Along comes a fox out for a walk. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Fox<\/em><\/strong>: What are you working on? <\/em><\/p>\n

Rabbit<\/em><\/strong>: My thesis paper to graduate from University.<\/em><\/p>\n

Fox<\/em><\/strong>: Hmmm. What is it about?<\/em><\/p>\n

Rabbit<\/em><\/strong>: Oh, I\u2019m writing about how rabbits eat foxes. <\/em><\/p>\n

Fox<\/em><\/strong>: [After an incredulous pause.] That\u2019s ridiculous! Any fool knows that rabbits don\u2019t eat foxes. <\/em><\/p>\n

Rabbit<\/em><\/strong>: Come with me, and I\u2019ll show you!<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

They both disappear into the rabbit\u2019s burrow. After a few minutes, gnawing on a fox bone, the rabbit returns to his lap top and resumes typing. Soon, a wolf comes along and stops to watch the hard-working rabbit. [Tippy-tap, tippy-tap, tippy-tippy-tap.]<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wolf<\/em><\/strong>: What\u2019s that you\u2019re writing? <\/em><\/p>\n

Rabbit<\/em><\/strong>: I\u2019m doing a thesis on how rabbits eat wolves.<\/em><\/p>\n

Wolf<\/em><\/strong>: You don\u2019t expect to get such garbage published, do you?<\/em><\/p>\n

Rabbit<\/em><\/strong>: No problem. Do you want to see why? <\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The rabbit and the wolf go into the burrow. Again, the rabbit returns by himself. This time he is patting his stomach. He goes back to his typing. [Tippy-tap, tippy-tap, tippy-tippy-tap.] Finally, a bear comes along. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Bear<\/em><\/strong>: What are you doing? <\/em><\/p>\n

Rabbit<\/em><\/strong>: I\u2019m doing a thesis on how rabbits eat bears.<\/em><\/p>\n

Bear<\/em><\/strong>: Well, that\u2019s absurd.<\/em><\/p>\n

Rabbit<\/em><\/strong>: Come into my home, and I\u2019ll show you.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Scene: Inside the rabbit\u2019s burrow. In one corner, there is a pile of fox bones. In another corner is a pile of wolf bones. On the other side of the room, a huge lion is belching and picking his teeth.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The moral of the story<\/h3>\n

It doesn\u2019t matter what you choose for a thesis topic.<\/p>\n

It doesn\u2019t matter what you use for your data.<\/p>\n

It doesn\u2019t even matter if your topic makes sense.<\/p>\n

What matters is who you have for a thesis advisor!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
